Name: Lisa Becksford
Current title: Learning Services and Educational Technologies Librarian, Virginia Tech
My journey to librarianship began a few years ago when I was teaching composition and realized that the librarian-led information literacy sessions were one of my favorite parts of the semester. I began my MSLS program at UNC Chapel Hill in 2013 and received my degree this past May. While I was a student, I worked in both academic and special libraries, gaining experience in reference, instruction, and outreach. In August, I moved to Virginia to take my current position at Virginia Tech, where I’m helping to create the library’s online learning program, teaching instruction sessions, and working to build relationships and provide learning opportunities for a variety of groups on campus.
As a newcomer both to the profession and to Virginia, I’m eager to grow as a librarian and to build relationships with colleagues across the state. I’d welcome the chance to serve VLA NMRT as the Secretary/Treasurer, seeking to further the mission of the group through effective record keeping, organization, and financial management. In addition, I look forward to continuing to grow and strengthen the Mentoring Program. I’m thrilled to be joining this community and look forward to being a part of the NMRT.
