Professional Biography:

Margaret Howard is an Assistant Branch Manager at Chesterfield County Public Library, where she has worked since January 2011. She was named an ALA Emerging Leader 2013 and has served on several committees for ALA NMRT, LLAMA, and as VLA NMRT Secretary/Treasurer 2012-2013. She has conducted extensive research regarding ALA membership retention, financial literacy, digital literacy, as well as libraries use of social media. She received her MLIS from UNC Greensboro in May 2010.

Statement of Purpose:

I have really enjoyed serving as VLA NMRT Secretary/Treasurer over the past year and would like to increase my involvement by running as Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect. My experiences working with this team, serving on other committees within ALA, as well as working with my ALA Emerging Leaders 2013 team have given me the organizational and leadership skills required by this position, and I know I will meet the challenges of this position with the enthusiasm and dedication they deserve. I am very passionate about VLA NMRT and believe that it is incredibly important to provide a supportive network to new VLA members and new librarians. I would like to continue this by working with team members to create innovative programs and ideas to continue to cultivate VLA and our field.
