VLA NMRT Forum election – Programming Director candidate

Candidate: Craig Arthur
Running for: Programming Director
Current Job Title: Instruction Librarian – Radford University, Radford, VA – February 2013-present

Professional Biography:

Before coming to Radford University, I worked for High Point University Libraries as part-time Library Supervisor, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as Reference/Instruction Department Intern, and Rockingham Community College as Library Assistant. I received my Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2012.

Statement of Purpose:

I would love to serve the Virginia Library Association’s New Members Round Table this upcoming year as your Programming Director. I have been a member of VLA since 2010 when I entered UNCG’s MLIS program. One of my favorite aspects of librarianship is the collegial spirit of the profession and VLA NMRT is an excellent way to share ideas across the commonwealth. I would enjoy coordinating both social and professional development activities for VLA NMRT members. As a DJ for more than 15 years, getting people together to have a good time is one of my favorite things to do. Professional development is pretty awesome, too. Networking and mentoring have been especially beneficial to me as a relatively new librarian. I hope that serving VLA NMRT as Programming Director will allow more opportunities to create and strengthen professional relationships within and outside of the Round Table.
